The hybrid privately owned and publicly managed Credit Reference Information Bureau (CRIB) in Sri Lanka has greatly contributed to sound underwriting and increased access to mainstream credit in Sri Lanka, even during an extended period of social unrest. Now that stability has returned to the country, we anticipate that CRIB will increase its role as an engine for financial inclusion and responsible lending, especially given the proliferation of interesting experiments in micro-lending. PERC activities in Sri Lanka include:
- Keynoting annual Board of Directors meeting for CRIB;
- Addressing public officials on credit information sharing matters and the need for alternative data in consumer credit reporting; and,
- Outreach to financial services sector industry executives.
